Truck digital advertising is big business, as the amount of captive audience watchers is tremendous, one corporation has rolled out these tvs to a fleet of buses that are used for a “Park and Ride” service figure out more.

Parking is a major issue in UK towns and cities, so bus operators are supplying a park and ride service, this is when you park your vehicle on the outskirts of town and a bus takes you to the city or town centre for a small fee.

Now one marketing agency has seen a gap in the market place and have deployed 15” LCD displays with inbuilt media players that play adverts from the advertisers inside of the city, whilst the passengers are being commuted into and out of the city, the media are for everything from jewellers, clothing shops, vehicle repair businesses and cafes. The adverts have increased over the previous 2 to 3 months and also include eye catching and dynamic promotions.

To achieve this is not hard, they have employed a 15" LCD display screen with a screen ratio of 4:3, the viewable area of the display is 304 mm wide x 228 mm high. The maximum resolution is 1024 x 768 with 16.7 million colours and each screen is 300 nits, allowing everyone to see the content during the transit to the town centre, from the front to back row of seats on the bus.

Also a ticker runs at the bottom of the screen supplying weather information for the day, so shoppers have an idea when to take shelter or to avoid the rain.

This hardware works on two fronts, the first is to present information to the people on the bus during their transit from the car park to the town centre, these information are specially applicable as during the run up to Christmas these commercials include pre Christmas money off vouchers that are sent using an SMS to passengers mobile phones, this has a distinct advantage over other businesses who do not advertise as the passengers will go to the store and use the voucher to order Christmas items.

The second stage is that the advertisers have the distinctive access to these customers and so eliminate most of the competitors, they can also see how the advertising campaign is going with the number of vouchers redeemed on a weekly basis, so when they want to improve sales, they can display more tempting advertisements using various media formats from video, audio and images.

Another alternative would be to fit an LCD display into an LCD enclosure and mount this to the bus, the people behind the advertising agency will for sure know that their investment is protected, especially when hooligans get on the bus to do some shopping.

This proves that digitial signage no matter if it is for indoor or outside applications, it is here to stay for some time and the only way to deal with it is to enbrace it and work with it.

The writer has 21 years experience in making protective electonic cases, and owns the leading manufacturer of LCD enclosures, this range of outdoor digital signage protection is essential to guard the investmetn in the project.
